The 00-adjutor Archbishop of Sydney, oho 8.-shops of Armidale, Grafton, Biverina and Bathurst, in a joint letter co the Hon. T. R. Bavin, Premier of New South Wales, ca’i attention to the danger to the moral and material welfare of the citizens of the State through the excessive inducements to and participation an betting and gambling. They add that they are convinced that a license for betting on mechanical hare racing is calculated: to greatly extend the range and increase the appetite for betting, especially 'among women and children. Tin? State, therefore, was threatened with a. most serious (social peril. The Immediate and ultiamte consequences are so great that they pray the Government -should prohibit betting in connection with these electrical devices.
