ELECTRIC SHOCK SUFFERED.
H A WEIR, A LINESMAN INJURED. MISHAP IN HIGH STREET. While working on the Hawera. Eleotric Light Company's lines in High Street at about eleven o’clock this morning, Harold Walden suffered a slight shock as a result) of coming into contact with a live wire. The injuries received were, .fortunately not severe and after receiving medical attention he was able to proceed to his home. Walden was, among others, working on the replacement of lines in High. Street and was cutting an insulated wire which, he believed to be ! ‘dead.” but which was carrying 230 volts. It is believed that he was gripping the iron pole with one hand and thus made the contact to earth. He was able to reach the ground after receiving the shock ’before he collapsed. The injured man was taken into Mr R. Tait’s chemist shop nearby and attended by Dr. W. M. Thomson. After a short while he was able to proceed to his home and it is stated that he will have quite recovered in a day or so. He is a married man with a family. The company’s engineer states that the occurrence was primarily due to the fact that the linesman was not wearing gloves, which are essential for such work. Had voltage in the wire been heavier* the injuries would have been much more serious.
