SCHOOL CONCERT AND PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Town Hall was crowded last nignt on the occasion oi : the school children’s concert. The teachers Lave every reason to be proud of the manner 'in which the pupils acquitted themselves, the various items i>eing given with very pleasing effect. Prior to the opening Mr. T. Pickering played several selections on the bagpipes outside of tne hall. The overture was played by Misses Peddie and Grant. The -song “Massa’s in the Cold, cold ground,” by tne boys in nigger costumes was heartily encored. Master James Aim recited “O’Grady’s Goat.” Two Maori girls, Hannah King and 31 aiw T© Meri, rendered very pleasingly two native songs, for which they were recalled. A humorous recitation by Master Ivan Tippett received much applause. This was followed by the folk song and dance in costume by the pupils. Nursery rhymes in costume by the smaller pupils was next given, and appealed very much to the audience. The programme was brought to a close by a popular item entitled “Captain Soot and the Fairies.” After the concert the prizes were presented by Mr. Grant, chairman bf the School Committee; as follows: Standard Vl.—Mavis Peddie (dux of the school), Ethel Norfolk 2, Leila I Hurliman 3. _ | Standard V.—Clarence Leydon I, Douglas Harrison 2, Violet Magill 3.
