'Through the plate glass of the large show windows gleam brilliant diamonds, lustrous pearls, elegantly fashioned articles of gold and silver, high grade examples of the watch and clock maker’s craft, together with dainty toilet requisites, china and crystal ware and varied other articles of utilitarian as well as ornamental value. In the interior of the premises dignified show cases present a wealth of further attractions any of which may bo inspected at leisure by the visitor.

By the system of direct importation principally . from England, France and Switzerland the firm is able to place the best of overseas manufactures at the disposal of its clients on the most favourable terms. It claims to keep a moving stock which equals in quality any which may bo shown even in th'c much larger centres and to make the handsome wares available at prices which will bear favourable comparison with anv.

Some 30 years ago the foundation of the present extensive business was prepared by the late Mr. Harry Morris, who commenced in a comparatively humble manner as a practical watchmaker and jeweller in a shop located on the site now occupied by the premises of Messrs. Geo. Symc and Co Ltd.

On his decease some thirteen years ago after the present establishment had been acquired his wife carried on the business and through her knowledge of its requirements and her unfailing courtesy to patrons, further extended, the clientiele originally attracted to the business by Mr. 'Morris. Two years ago the present limited liability company was formed and Mr. G. W lies tide became one of its directors. A practical watchmaker and jeweller With an experience of 25 years at Tlome as well as in the Dominion, he proved a valuable ally and the recent progress of the business has marched hand in hand, with the gradual recovery of the district from the period of depression which followed the Great War. Under the present administration customers of the firm, whether their requirements are direct purchases or high class watch and jewellery repairing work, may rely more than ever on receiving tiie utmost efficiency combined with thi; courtesy which has always been an outstanding characteristic of the firm.
