GIRLS ABSCOND FROM INSTITUTION. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., Nov. 2. At the Police Court, Ruby Bulliffe; aged 19, and Dulcie Milieu Turnbull, aged 19, were charged with being incorrigible rogues in that they escaped from the Point Hals well institution before the- expiration of the term for which they had been committed. They were also charged with stealing at Shannon, from a Chinaman, goods valued at £3/7/6. They wore- remanded to Wellington to appear to-morrow. RAILWAY CLERK’S LAPSE. WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. Frederick Diver, a clerk at Lambton Railway Station and showing 19-£ years’ service with the Railway Department, was committed to the Supreme Court to-day f-o-r sentence on -a chargeof theft- from the Government. The defalcations amounted to £l7 12s sd, and restitution had been made. ALLEGED THEFT OF MONEY. INVERCARGILL, Nov. 2. At the Police Court, Ernest Maben Gilinour, well known in business and athletic circles, was committed for trial on charges of theft of sums totalling £ISOO from Emily Clark/ a widow, who died early this year. The defence is that Gilmour held power of attorney, under which he drew the money, which he had a perfect. right to do. On a further charge of theft of £250 lie was also committed for trial. SEQUEL TO QUARREL. CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 2. Am tlie -result of a disturbance in a Durham Street- ihousn- last night, David Taylor, aged 38, was to-day convicted and ordered to come up for -sentence- in a- charge of presenting a firearm at his landlord, Thomas Budson, and was- fined £4 and costs for assault. The evidence showed that the firearm was empty, though cartridges were nearby. Tavlo-r was excited with drink and objected to the landlord giving; him notice to quit.
