MAORI TEAM’S TOUR
SOUTHLAND’S SECOND FIFTEEN DEFEATED. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) INVERCARGILL, Aug. 15. Five thousand - people attended the match between the Maori team and the Southland second representative fifteen on Sfahurelay afternoon. A bright interesting game resulted. Weather conditions. were favourable. The home team did most o.f the attacking in the first spell, but the visitors isubsquently threw the ball about in good style ’ and .scored some fine tries, principally through the backs’ clever tactics. At half‘-time the Maoris led by five to three, but in the second half increased the total to- twenty-one while the home team only scored three additional points. The Maoris’ total was made up of five tries, three of which were converted, while Southland’s score consisted of an unconverted try and a nenmity. Southland .scored first, Ott.ro.v being responsible, and then Pelham got across and Orawford converted. Lockwood was the next scorer and then Pel ham again. Orawford added the -additional points. MeEwan next drop-kicked from a mark, a fine goal, for Southland. Wi Neera next scored. Orawford converting. Wilson oibtaihed the final try, making the scores 21 to 6 in favour of the Maoris.
