SHOWER OF FISH.
REPORT FROM WESTERN AUSTRAJJA.
A shower of fish is believed to have occurred in heavy rain that fell in the Upper Swan Valley, near Perth, on the night of July 1. it is reported that next morning a number of small fish were found in pooLs of water in at least three vineyards. Many of the fisili were dead on the ground, hut some Were swimming in the pools, and one was kept alive in a bottle or fresh water until July 6. The fish resembled fresh water minnows, which abound in the water*courses in the Darling Ranges.
Commenting upon the report, the State Meteorologist (Mr. D. J. Mares) stated that falls of fish had been reported in New South Wales in the past. A similar fall occurred at Quirindi about 1914. The presence of the fish was ascribed to a temadic squall, which,, having passed over a water surface, had gathered them up, and had ultimately dropped them many miles from the scene.
