Though, the wicket was somewhat warm, it p'ayed truly enough, and consequently tiie New Zealanders’ display was a great disappointment. "Blunt played a restrained but confident game, but Lowry failed to settle down. He attempted one big hit, but mistimed it so badly that he fell back on the defensive game.. McGirr and Dacre established a partnership which promised for :a while to save the game. McGirr, who realised his responsibility, batted especially well, but still full of confidence. He s-cored 11 from one of Jupp’s overs. Daere hit a sixer and then fell to a shooter. The batting after lunch was rather scratchy and the game reached an undistinguished conclusion. The bowling of Northantbs was steady and of a, good length. The bowlers sometimes got much work on the ball, but this did not account for the New Zealanders’ poor showing. The match will long be remembered at Kettering for it® sporting qualities.
