PLEBISCITE WANTED.
TO CONFIRM THE CONSTITUTION
POLITICAL AFFAIRS IN GREECE.
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.
ATHENS, May 31
M. Venizelos has created a sensation by an article in which he urges the' Republican, leaders to insist on the Coalition Government holding a plebiscite without delay for the purpose of confirming the new constitution.
He argues that this will end the intrigues of the Royalists, who, in spite of the previous pronouncement of the people, continue to regard the Republican regime as- illegally established, and maintain a dangerous agitation aiming at the restoration of the monarchy by force. Tlie Cabinet, at a. special meeting, derided not to adopt the proposal, but the situation, says the “Daily Express,” may be complicated by the intervention of the military. Meanwhile the Government is concentrating known loyal troops at Salonika and Athens.
