There was a splendid attendance at the dispersal isale of Mr. B. W. Haryey’is’ “VVairoai'’ Red Polled herd held in the Waverley isaleyards on Tuesday. Unfortunately the day proved very cola and wet and tire cattle were not seen to advantage 3 they were also rather backward, in condition, particularly the younger cattle. Nevertheless a good sale resulted, competition at timeis being quite .spirited, which goes to prove that farmers are not all viewing the future from a. pessimistic .standpoint. The top price of the day was do guineas' for the nine-year-old cow, Tourist, by Redgrave Rex (imp). This cow, a well-known show champion which produced 3801bs of fat in 280 days, was bought for the Government herd at the Central Development Farm, Weraroa. Mr G. A. Martin, Manakau, secured another of the champion cows in Star list, at the modest price of 36 guineas. Mr. T. E. Trask, Eltham, secured her unbeaten yearling at 28 guineas. The top priced heifer was Wairoa. Tourist Ist, a beautiful heifer by Gerfh from Tourist. She realised 38 guineas to the bid of Gregor McLeod, Okoia. Another fine cow was Kowhai 74th, c‘ ; which the estate of A. G. Anderson, Makiriki.ri, was the purchaser 'at 35 guineas. A number of the females were not sold ancl several of the herd sires failed to reach the reserves, but including all the hull and heifer calves, the average for 49 head was £l7 17is. The buyers of the younger stock included breeders from the Waikato, King Country, Hawke’s Bay and the South Island. The top price for buls was 41 guineas paid for the winning yearling bull at the Auckland Royal Show in Wairoa. Chanceget. This hull, graded A.A., also won the English Society’s cup for the best bull at the Royal Show eligible for entry in the English, herd book, and at the Dannevirke Show also he Avon the junior championship. He was purchased for Mr. A. Donaldson, of Balclutha, Otago, who was the judge at the Dannevirko show.
