LLEGAL CONVERSION OF A CAR

CHARGE AGAINST WO* MEN

(by telegraph—press association .) WELLINGTON, June 1. The occupants of the car which collided with a service car on the Hutt road on May 24, killing the driver, Kenny, and "injuring several passengers, one of whom is still in a serious condition, were charged before Mr Page, S.M., to-day with having con verted to their own use, but not so as to 'be guilty of theft, a five-seater, car worth £320, the propei’ty of Bertie Somerville Lyons. The accused* are Ernest George Reid, aged. 29, and Harry Stacey, aged 33, both labourers.

In asking for a remand, DetectiveSergeant Holmes said that the inquiries had not yet been completed. Mr Dolan, for the accused, asked for hail.

Mr Page: Is there any other charge? Detective-Sergeant Holmes: Yes, another charge is pending. Mr Dolan: An additional charge would only involve manslaughter. The remand* was granted, but hail was refused.
