Mr Archer’s immense majority was a tribute to the ability with which he had, filled the position of mayor, a,nd his complete answer to the people who were responsible for the personal attacks against Mr Archer. The excellent Labour vote at- AVhangarei indicated the change in public opinion which was taking place. He regretted Mr Blood worth ’ s defeat at Auckland, because lie was undoubtedly the best member of the last council. Air Chapman's defeat at Wellington was equally to be regretted, hut the very large vote was significant.
