TARANAKI’S ART UNION.

THE EL DORADO. Interesting particulars of the system of control or the sale of tickets m the El Dorado (£4000) art union—which is essentially a Taranaki venture, having been inaugurated by the Egmont, ►Stratford and Taranaki A. and P. Associations —have, been given to a representative of this paper by Mr M. (J. Crrghton, secretary ~of the art union. In the course of an interview this - morning, Mr Crighton said: The system designed hr the organiser, Mr vV. G. Compton, to keep a close and accurate record of all tickets sold to the public, is simple, but yet very accurate. Sales registers have been printed, and one register is issued with every 5000 tickets The register provides for the inclusion on each sheet 'of columns allowing for the record of the series letter, the ticket’s actual number, the name and address of the person to whom disposed, book numbers and cash columns. The feature of the system is that a concise record, may be kept- of each individual ticket as it is sold. From the smaller registers, a large series register is made up on thei .same lines. This shows a complete record of every ticket issued in the respective f series. When an application for tick- * ets is received, the numbers of the tickets are noted on the application form, and this provides an additional check on the .register system. When, the drawing takes place, the larger check registers are used, and the clerk in charge of this can tell at a glance the moment a number is drawn whether tha particular ticket has been sold or not. * For audit purposes the smaller registers are used, and the cash takings are checked bv the receipts and unsold books on hand. The I'll Dorado art union will lie drawn in Hawera. under supervision. on F-brunrv 17, this being the first bio 1 art union to be drawn in Taranaki. The closing date for sales is Thursday next, February 3. and already fcM demand for tickets ".is exceptionally heavy. Applications are reaching the Hnwrn office from all parts of New Zealand «nd from Australia. Beports from rl' over New Zealand are most encouraging, and everything points to (lif-, ultimate success of an effort which '•«,« for i*s ohioct the improvement of ].be :igrieu!t"ra’ and pastoral interests or our province.
