As a result of communications received from the Governor-General, it is probable that the various dinners arranged for the Duke and Duchess of- York during their visit to Christchurch will be cancelled (says a Canterbury paper). The official feeling is that the visitors should not be monopolised by sections of the community, as thev wish to meet as many people as possible. The Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), interviewed at Kaikoura, said that he had been in communication with the Governor-General regarding the entertainment programme, and, as it was considered overcrowded, several functions will be cancelled to allow the visitors more time to meet the people.
