JERSEY BREEDERS.
MEETING OF PROVINCIAL COUNCIL. QUARTERLY CONFERENCE. At the quarterly meeting of the provincial council of the Taranaki Jersey Breeders’ Association in Kaponga to-day, the president (Mr S. JHollard) was in tlie chair and there were present: Messrs' H. B. Lepper, PI. C. Sampson, E. Griffiths, PI. A. Plunt, P. Peterson, and A. J. Barr (provincial secretary). _ After delegates- had been entertained at morning tea the business meeting commenced at then Oddfellows’ Hall. In welcoming the delegates, to Kaponga, the president apologised for the absence of Messrs Linnell, Cornwall and O’Sullivan and the local secretary, who was unavoidably absent from town. STRAYING STOCK. Correspondence was received from the Jersey, Shorthorn and Hereford Councils, promising support for the suggestion of the executive to the effect that the onus should be on the owners of stray stock for any damage done. Mr Peterson suggested that they should bring the- matter before the M.P.’s. for their various -districts. CONFERENCE OF JUDGES.
The question of holding a conference of judges to consider methods and ideals was discussed. The council had forwarded a remit to the parent body, and this was forwarded to the clubs for consideration. Mr E. Griffiths said that the parent council suggested three conferences, and could not do more than send its recommendation on to the clubs and ask them, to discuss it and make suggestions. It- would be better if clubs thought- out a- scheme for themselves and decided on a course of action. It would be a good move if judges, associate judges, and perhaps breeders met and had a round-table discussion. The wider a discussion became the better for all so as to get uniformity in judging. The difficulty was: not only one in New Zealand, hut was very marked in the- States. There was no scheme better than having a korero in the direction, of creating a general scale of points; but, he added, the personal element would always come- in, and that would eventually decide the issue.
Mr Peterson considered the council might have indicated if it- considered ■it- a good move or not: Eventually a motion was carried to the effect that the New Plymouth Club be asked to call the first conference of Taranaki judges and advise the other clubs in Taranaki, -so as to have a general and free discussion. (Left sitting.)
