(From Our Own Correspondent.) IMPROVEMENTS HOUND 1 CAIRN. Tli© handsome st-on© fence erected by the department in charge of soldiers’ graves last year has been much admired and certainly has much improved the look of the little cemetery, where lie the remains of soldiers who fell in. the Maori War, and also- of the rugged and picturesque cairn erected by the ilate Mr. J. Livingston. Advice has now been received that the work of levelling and grassing the enclosure will now be proceeded, with at once. Mr. Davis, inspector of ith.e> depart me lit, linis isurranged for the work to be done. BEACH IMPROVEMENTS. The beach committee is very grateful* for the efforts made by residents to raise funds for improvements and can make good use of the money ,so raised. Another little function will be held this (Wednesday) evening in Mr. McLean’s house and lat the .same time a general meeting of the committee will be held .at Mr. Syme’s house, when the matter of a scheme of further improvements will be discussed.
