FAILED FIVE TIMES.
MOTORIST’S EXPENSIVE FAILURE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Jan. 24. . “I will never build another car. I know when I am beaten!” declared Malcolm Campbell after his fifth unsuccessful attempt to smash the world’s speed record. £'lo,ooo was expended on a 450-h.p. Blue Bird, in which the Jiopes of associations and several manufacturers were centred. It is at present aboard a lorry going to London lor overhaul. This expensive three tons of machinery thus far has only covered 100 miles under its own power. Its failure to achieve the 171.591 miles an hour at present to the credit of Parry Thomas marked the destruction of dreams which urged Campbell to constant application for three years past.
