HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. There was a good attendance at a meeting held last night of the Normanby Horticultural Society. Apologies were received from Airs Frankljm and Air F. Pidgeon for unavoidable absence. . The secretary reported that further donations had bean received from Messrs Welsh, AlcCarthy, Beechey and Houston, Air and Alr;s F. Pidgeon, Air B. C. Gibson, and the Hawera. Gas Company. A vote ol thanks wa s passed to the donors. It was decided that the Hawera Gas Company’* prize be alotted lor best loaf of white bread. The following judges vore app-> nxed, subject to fheir acceptance of the position :—Pot plants, Mr C. C, Passniussen; cut flowers, Air O. Goodson; decorative, Airs J. Hobbs; farm and garden produce, Messrs R-. Dunn 'and F. Gillanders; fruit Air Betts; preserves, Airs G. Gibson; cooking. Airs Hocldle ; poultry and .songbirds, Mr A. C. Johnstone; painting, Air Poison; fancy work, Aliss Sewed ; handwriting, Mr j. AY. Harding. The following ladies a.nd gentlemen are asked to act- as stewards : Cut flowers, Aliases Clements, Parslow, Palmer, Paine, Pettigrew, Quin, and Airs A. Alorse; Alessrs A. J. Hopcroft, G. The Hon. 0. J. Hawken. Minister for Agriculture, is to be asked to open the show on the afternoon on the secopd day.

It was left with the president (Mr B C. Hibson') and the secretary to obtain, an estimate of the cost of improved benching for the cut flowers section.

It was thought advisable to run a passenger ’bus from Hawera on the second afternoon of the show, and the secretary was instructed to interview ’bus proprietors in connection, with the same.

Mrs Gibson and the secretary were authorised to purchase a rose bowl for thic cut flower section.

It was decided that r letter be sent to Mr W. Bo we, one of the oldest mem-be'-s of the societv. conveying .sympathy with him in his long il'm-ess. PEBSONAL.

The man-v friends of Mrs. Peter Lawson will regret to hear of her death, which took place after a long and trying illnesw at Ewart Hospital, Wel'ane:ton, on Ja nuarv 10..
