LIBERAL COUNCIL.
ALR. LLOYD GEORGE'S OFFER REFUSED. THE REASONS STATED. BY' CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. Received 2.35 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Jan. 23. The Liberal Council has issued a statement to the effect that the administrative committee’s acceptance ol Mr. Lloyd George’s endowment entailed serious consequences to the Party’s organisation, including a moral obligation towards the donor, apparently incompatible with that f reedom ol policy land judgment so essential to healthy political action. The Liberal Council, although not antagonistic to the existing organisation, remains independent of the fund and the obligation attaching to its acceptance, but will work harmonously as regards all Liberal causes. Sir Wm. Plender has been appointed joint treasurer.
