The Wellington meeting’s second day wa3 dull but fine, and the track was in good order. The racing was good, with close finishes. The totalisatoi handled £78,943 10s, as against £78,203 last year. BY TELEOBAPH—SPECIAL TO THE STAR. WELLINGTON - , .Inn. 22. The Wellington meeting was advanced another stage to-day in tine but dull weather, there being a very large attendance. It has been a long time since there has been so many desperate finishes on one day. Mint Leaf was a decided favourite for the Mungaroa High-Weight, with good money offering for Wedding March and Ardfinnan. Capitulation was slow away and Wedding March led out from Mint Leaf and Bennanee. Bennanee opened up a good break going down the back from Alarie, Capitulation and Mint Leaf, Wedding March losing his place. Crossing the top Bennanee led Capitulation, Lady Passenger, Alarie, Mint Leaf and Wedding March. Mint Leaf raced past the leader at the turn, and Wedding March shot up on the inside. Mint Leaf drew away to win by two lengths from Wedding March, who finished well on the rails. Bennanee was two lengths away third, and Lady Passenger, Ardfinnan, Capitulation and Matu were next. In the Trial Plate Assurance was backed as if the- race was all over. •The barrier did not work correctly,

and Climax, Assurance and Lucre all got away badly. Crown Area began best from Zarisee, Kilmoyle and Crossbow. Assurance was being ridden hard and. crossing tlio- top, Zarisee led Crown Area, Serotina and Kilmoyle. At the false rail Crown Area took charge with Serotina a possibility, but weakened in the run in, and 1 Crown Area won by three lengths from Assurance, with Serotina a length' away third. Crossbow, Hymgreat, Kilmoyler and Mister Gamp were next. At, the barrier in the January Handicap Inferno was held behind and gave the rest a decided start. King Smock and Joy Bird jumped out first, but King: Smock was soon cut back to last, and Joy Bird led Ring the Bell, Rascal and Royal Damon. At the end of two furlongs Joy Bird led from Inferno, Decoy ,Bird, > Centrepiece and Ring the Bell. Decoy Bird ran into the lead crossing the top from Corn Money, Perle de Leon, Inferno, Joy Bird, Centrepiece and Ring the Bell. At the turn Decoy Bird led Perle de Leon, Corn Money, Joy Bird and Centrepiece. The last named took charge a furlong from home and, although he ran away from the whip, he stuck on and Avon well from Rascal, who finished fast, by half a length. Joy Bird Avas tAvo lengths aAvay third, with Decoy Bird fourth, and Royal Damon, Corn Monev, Ring the Bell and Inferno next. Paleta, Chips, Otairi and Wild Pigeon led Laughing Prince on to the course proper, and Paleta came away to Avin pulling up by tAvo lengths from Laughing Prince, who beat Otaim by a head. Tone, Wild Pigeon, Chips and Thaiv were next. Tho Racing Club Handicap Avas a great betting race, and saw. Footfall made first choice. Piuthair, FrontRank and Star Stranger began best. Front Rank set up a hot pace,. being six lengths' clear at the end of three furlongs of Alloivay, Avho Avas folloAVed by Piuthair, Footfall, Star Stranger, Count Cavour and Mask. At the six furlong post Front Rank was six lengths clear of Alloway and Footfall, Avith Piuthair, Mask, Count jCavour and Star Stranger next. Crossing the top the order was much the same, but Piuthair had gathered in Front Rank at the turn, AA’ith AlloAvay, Mask, Footfall, and Star Stranger handy. Pruthair looked a Avinner a furlong from home, but Star Stranger, desperately ridden, got up to beat her by a nose. Footfall was three lengths aAvay third, with Merry Day fourth and Front Rank and AlloAvay next. In the Douro Cup Yesperus was a very decided favourite. From a good start Kilmezzo, Battle Colours and Queen’s Choice were slowest aAvay and gon o’ Mine took up the running from Bronstell, Inoe, Jemidar, .and Yesperus. Son o’ Mine led past the six furlono' post from Bronstell, Jemidar, Gardant, Stormy, Vesperus and Rosenor. Crossing the top Bronstell and Son o’ Mine led Gardant, Jemidar, Yesperus, Outfit and Gold Mint. Yesperus was up to the leaders at tho turn, Avhere Horomea Avas showing up very wide out. Yesperus was in front at the distance. Avith Stormy putting in great Avork. Stormy failed to reach Yesperus by a nose, with Kilmiss halt a length away third. Vertigern was fourth, and Outfit, Starboard Light. Queen’s Choice and Peggy Ford next Limited Aims a hot favourite for the Metropolitan, with Paperchase and Mimetic solidly supported. Nadarino, Limited and Licinius began best, and racing on to the course proper Limited, Nadarino, Receipt and iMimethe led Benzora, Father O’Flynn and Paperchase. Receipt and. Father O Flynn weakened, and a furlong from home Limited, Benzora, Mimetic and Paperchase were going great guns. In a desperate finish to the post the judge could not separate Limited and Paperchase. Donmoon, 7.2 I Garrula, 7,13 2 Perriwoo, 8.1 3 There were thirteen starters. From a bad start Donmoon had a lot of leeway to make up, but, going great guns, he overhauled the leaders after passing tlie distance, making a flying finish and winning by two lengths and a half.
