A DECREASE IN BRITAIN., BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received 10.30 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Jan. 23. Lawful betting since the tax was introduced decreased 75 per cent, as compared with the previous year, according to the report of the committee of the Turf Guardian Society, which asserts that their lost business had been driven underground, either to illegal ready money betting, or by enriching shady bookmakers’ commission agents betting secretly, and not paying the tax. The committee expresses the opinion that the tax had broken doivn.—Sydney Sun Cable.
