Mr L. A. Bone left Hawera by the express train this morning, en route to Christchurch. He expects to return on "Wednesday evening. ilr. A. F. Turnbull, an inspector on the .staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., has been in Hawera for some days, quartered at the Central Hotel.

Messrs. H. C. Patcliett, chairman of directors of Midlane Bros., Wellington, and A. M. Anderson (managing director of the same concern) were in Hawera on business last week. He Mauny, the well-known violinist of Wellington, has been visiting Hawera for three days. He left by car for Wellington this morning. Mr J". Robertson, of Wellington, who is interested in the cinema industry, has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Motion Picture Inspectors’ Association, formed last week, has been spending the weekend in Hawera. He. went south by the express this morning. Recent guests at the White Wart Hotel included: Mr and Mrs Frank Amoore. New Plymouth; Mr and Mrs l G. Snaddon, Mr and Mrs J. B. Martin, Wellington; and Mr and Mrs A. Everett and family, Palmerston North.

A Press Association message from Vancouver states that the Right Hon. J. G. Coates arrived there on Saturday morning from Winnipeg, after experiencing the coldest- weather of the winter, the thermometer at many (mints touching 45 degrees below zero. He proceeds on Sunday to San Francisco, en route for New Zealand. By the death of Mr Henry Dustan Vavasour, of Ugbrooke station, one of Marlborough’s most highly esteemed citizens has been removed, states a Press Association telegram from Blenheim. Mr Vavasour who, only a few days ago celebrated Ms 77th birthday, was the third son of Sir William Vavasour, one of New Zealand’s pioneers. He was born at Hazelwood Castle in Yorkshire. In the year that he became of age he came to the Dominion and proceeded to Flaxbourne, where he was engaged in sheepfarming for two years. Some years later he took up land in Taranaki, where he resided until 1880. There he was chairman and secretary of the Tataraimaka Road Harbour Board, a member of the first Board, a member of the New Plymouth Taranaki County Council, and also secretary of the Agricultural Society. After returning to Flaxbourne, at which he was manager for several years, and after residing for a time in Southland, he pur chased Ugbrooke station, where he has resided since. -In 1887 he married Miss Bertha May Redwood, niece of Archbishop Redwood. There were 12 children. During his residence in Marlborough. Mr Vavasour was associated with a large number of local bodies.
