KAPONGA TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Kaponga Town Board, held on Tuesday night, was attended by Commissioners A. R. Bates (chairman), C. E. Betts, J. S. Charters. J. P. Gibson, and R. A. Law. The foremon reported that he had sand-grouted the eastern side of the Eltham Road and cleaned footpaths and culverts. ~, . Permission was granted the foreman to put in a new culvert facing his motor-shed, now in course of erection in Manaia Road. The foreman was granted leave of absence to attend a conference of delegates of the United Eire Brigades’ Association at Gisborne in February. CHILDREN’S LIBRARY SECTION. It -was decided to purchase 50 books as the nucleus of a children’s library. The annual subscription was fixed at 2s 6d, and it was resolved that the whole of the subscriptions received would be devoted to the purchase of now books for this section. PICTURE SUPPLIES. The clerk was given authority to proceed to AVcllington at a suitable date to arrange for a supply of films for the board’s exhibitions for the ensuing yeat ELECTRICAL ENGINEER’S REPORT. Power Houses. —QBotli plants liuv2 operated satisfactorily during the month, no electrical or mechanical trouble having developed. An uninterrupted supply nas been maintained on the country reticulation, the fault previously experienced having been entirely eliminated. The steady progress that is being made with the reconstruction programme is assisting in maintaining an improved supply, and in future country con-umers should have no further trcuble from power failures of any description. No. 2 Power Plant. —Upon the conclusion of the present milling season I propose closing this plant down for the purpose of thoroughly- overhauling the turbine. A recent investigation disclosed that the existing runner has had the vanes badly- damaged, due to contact with heavy stones that have come through the pipe line from time to time. Tnis damage is sufficient to seriously impair the efficiency of the wheel, and I consider it essential a new runner bo purchased and installed during the winter when the present spare shaft is being fitted. The turbine manufacturers have quoted for a new wheel at a cost of £4O, and I would request the board’s permission to place this order. Lines. —Reconstruction work has been carried on continuously- during the month. The Lower Duthie and Skect Road lines have been reconstructed, and consumers ’ services in that locality straightened out. The gang are at present engaged on the Palmer Road on similar work. When this section has been completed the Eltlium Road high anti low tension lines will be attended to. Consumers’ Installations. —A steady demand for extensions to existing installations is being experienced and an eiectrical fitter has been engaged on this ifrork continuously throughout the month. Present indications are that further nc-w business will be easily obtained, and I hope to be able to develop a heating and cooking load before long. FINANCE. The clerk reported as follows: Expenditure for month, including electrical works (£379 4s 6d) and cinema (£94 3s lOd) —£656 9s 4d. Receipts—library-, £l7 13s; licenses, £80; housing, £SO 6s 8d; cinema, £75 10s 6d; electricity, £I4S ISs. Town receipts, November, .1925. £OB 9s sd; November, 1926, £S4 4s Id. . The revenue for nine months ending December 31, 1920, was £729 2s 00 greater than for the corresponding period of tin' previous year.
