WEDDINGS.

♦ : PENNELL—LAURENT. A pretty wedding of considerable interest was solemnised at St. Clary's Church, Hawera, on Wednesday, Juno 23, 1926. The contracting parties were Florence, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Laurent, of Hawera, andi John Pennell, son of Mrs D. Peterson, Grey Lynn, Auckland. The Rev. H. W. Monaghan officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, was becomingly attired in a figured brocaded satin frock, - with pearl trimmings and beautifully embroidered veil and the customary orange blossom. She also' wore silver brocaded shoes, and carried a beautiful shower bouquet of roses and maiden hair fern, tied with ribbon streamers. The birdesmaid, Miss Maude Laurent, was attired in a blue! figured shot taffeta and blue tulle veil. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr .Roy Peterson, of Auckland, who capably carried out the 'duties of best man. After the ceremony about 70 guests assembled at the Islington Tea Rooms, where a sumptuous' breakfast was partaken of, the usual toasts being duly honoured. Later in the day the happy couple lefti for Wellington and Auckland, amidst showers of confetti, and with good wishes of all, the bride travelling ini a. smart ensemble suit of navy repp and hat to match. The young couple were thei recipients of many valuable and useful presents. PREECE—BLAKE. A wedding which was quietly celebrated at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Hawera, on Saturday, July 31, 1926, was that of Ruby May, daughter of Mr S. and the late Mrs S. Blake, of Argyle street, Hawera, to George (Bill), second son of Mr and Mrs George Preece, of Matapu. The Rev. R. E. Evans performed the ceremonv.

The bride wore a dainty white brocaded maroeain frock, with a flowing veil and coronet of pearls, and carried a, lovely shower bouquet. Miss Florence Blake, sister of the bride, as bridesmaid, wore a heliotrope maroeain and' georgette gown, with heliotrope veil to match. Miss Joy Wills, niece of the bride, made, a dainty little flower girl in pink crepe de chine, carrying ai lovely basket of flowers.

The bridegroom was attended by Mi' J. McKeown, of Tima.ru, as best man.

WILSON—AROA

A pretty wedding was solemnised at the Auroa Church on Saturday, June 26, 1926, when Doris Ellen, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Aroa, of Auroa, was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to George Allan,, eldest eon of the late Mr and Mrs A. Wilson, of Masterton. The Rev. Mr Swainson officiated. The bride, who was giveni away by her father, wore a dainty gown of ivory brocaded satin and silk georgette, trimmed with silver roses and orange blossom, with a beautifcl flowing veil of scalloped embroidered tulle, caught in mob cap style with orange blossom and silver bands. She carried a shower bouquet of chrysanthemums, jonquils, and asparagus ferns, with ribbon and tulle streamers. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Gladys Aroa, who wore a pretty frock of apricot satin marocain, with cream insertion trimmings and black picture hat, and carried a bouquet of apricot and cream, flowers with apricot streamers. Little Eileen Mace, cousin of the bride, was daintily attired in a cream frock with vieux rose trimmings, and carried a: basket of flowers. Mr L. Aroa, acted as best man. . Mrs H. Hartley very kindly presided! at the organ. After the eeremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents, and later the happy couple, amid showers of confetti and good wishes, left by motor, the bride travelling in a nigger brown frock and hat to tone. They were the recipients of many presents and cheques.
