At Newcastle, Billy Edwards was given a knock-out decision against Merv. Williams in the ninth round, the referee stopping the fight after Williams had been downed three times in -the eighth round. The earlier rounds were tame, but- in the later rounds Edwards -severely handled hie opponent,' repeatedly flooring him. McDonald outpoints parked.. BLENHEIM, Aug. 8. In a 15-rounds professional bout last evening, staged by the Westoort Boxing Association, Lachie McDonald (11.91) outpointed Eddie Parker. GRIFFITHS AND CURRAN DRAW. BLENHEIM, Aug. 8. A fifteen-round’ professional fight between Tommy‘Griffiths (Dunedin). Bst. 101 lh. and George Curran (Wellington), Bst. llllb. went the full. distance. It- was a clean, clever exhibition of fast fighting. The men were evenly matched, and the referee’s clecis’on of a draw was very well received, although manv were of the opinion that Griffiths was just a shade, better than his obnonent in the opening rounds. Griffiths did most of the lending, hut midwav through Curran made the fighting close and evened up the points. At close .Quarters the -sixth- round was verv willing. Curran forcing the pace and scoring with both hands-. In the seventh round Griffiths took a turn at leading, scoring repeatedlv with a straight- left. In the .eighth, ninth, mid tenth rounds Curran continued his forcing tnektics, again evening up the score. The remaining rounds were very fast and there was not much between the men, both giving a fine, exhibition of in-fighting. In a preliminary- amateur ourrounds bout. Angus Smith (Blenheim). Ost 31b received a decision over N Thomas. Bst. 13Mb. after a clever bout.
