‘ln these days of fast traffic by rail and motor, no stock should be allowed on any streets or roads," reported the Hawera County Council ranger, Mr G. H. Blackwell, to the monthly meeting to-day, after dealing with the question of straying stock from the Manaia and Normanby town districts. The annual meeting of the Meremero Dairy Company was held in the office of the secretary, Mr. A. K. Dyson, today, when the retiring chairman of ■directors, Mr. J. E. O'Shea, presided over a fair attendance of shareholders. The report and: balance-sheet (previously published) was adopted. The retiring directors, Messrs O’Shea " and J. Kerrisk were re-elected unopposed. At a meeting of directors held subsequently, Mr. O’Shea, was elected chairman, A full’ report is held over owing to pressure of space. A pohutukawa tree growing in the grounds of the Parliamentary Buildings has apparently lost the run of the calendar (says the Evening Post). At any rate 'it is putting forth a lavish display of blossom .just now, seemingly taking August for December. “Who’s ‘they’?’’ asked Cr. T. A. Winks at to-day’s meeting of the Hawera County Coxxneil when the chairman, Mr J. B. Murdoch, was explaining the provisions of the Town Planning Bill. “Is this another board?” (the council had just dealt with the Local Bodies’ Loan Board Bill). “No,” replied the chairman amid laughter, “it’s the Valuer-General this time.”

After lying idle in Berry’s Bay for the last five years, the' bulk of the old five-masted schooner Inca has been sold to Australasian Films, Ltd., by Messrs Auland and Co., and is to be taken ou.t to sea, set on fire, and blown up during the filming otf an Australianmad© picture, “For the Term of His Natural Life.” Masts are to be erected, and about 60ft of th© aft part of the vessel will be refitted to represent one of the terrible convict vessels of a hundred years ago. The vessel will then he fully rigged as a sailing ship, and taken well out to sea, where she will he set on fire and destroyed bv explosives. Some of the scenes will be “shot” while the Inca, is in Berry’s Bay, but in order that an unbroken skyline may he shown, most of them will be taken outside Sydney Heads. A, special feature of the film will he the natural colour effects.
