CHILD SUFFOCATED BY STUD

A small bone .stud picked u,p whilst playing caused tlie death of Audrey Josephine Hiller, aged three and a half, the stud having been found impacted in the larynx after death. The coroner returned a verdict accordingly. AWARDS FOR MEMORIAL DESIGNS WELLINGTON, Aug. 7. PNEUMONIC INFLUENZA AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, Aug. 7. J Three cases of pneumonic influenza have been reported since yesterday. One, from Oamaru, proved fatal.. DIED WHILE UNDER CHLOROFORM. TAUMARUNUI, Aug. 7. At the. inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs J. Simpson, who expired whilst undergoing an operation at Taringamotu, the coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, which said that death was due to heart failure caused by the chloroform anaesthetic. All precautions had been taken to safeguard the lifo of the woman. DEVELOPING CEMENT INDUSTRY. WHANGAREI, Aug. 7. A number of directors of a newly? formed cement company visited Whangarei this morning and inspected the white limestone deposits at Abbey Caves coal mine, Whau Valley, and cement rock deposits at Whangarci Heads, all of which properties were recently purchased. The directors expressed themselves as being well pleased with the prospects, i*ad it is understood that developments will take place in the near future.
