WILFUL DESTRUCTION.
OF ANCIENT CHURCH RELICS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—CO ‘Y RIGHT PARIS, Aug. 5. Shameful destruction was revealed when some children playing in a field near Clerv unearthed part of the treasures stolen from the church at Clerv. The thieves evidently found the tabernacle too heavy to carry off, so they smashed it with a, hammer and discarded portions. They also left a pyx and cross.
[Thieves pillaged the. historic church at Clerv, near Orleans, where the tomb of Louis XI is situated, and (stole Louis’ famous gold-embroidered cloak, a tabernacle encrusted with diamonds, and sacred vessels valued at two million francs.]
