Surprise is expressed in official circles at the Duke and Duchess of York changing their plans for the Australian tour. The change is not likely to- be popular in Commonwealth official circles, the chief weakness lying in the interpolation, of New Zealand in the big organising arrangements. A hiatus is feared in the welcoming enthusiasm, as the Governor-General, Prime Minister and) many other Commonwealth representatives ’must make a special trip to Fremantle, and the ceremonies will then have to be repealed nearly two months later in Melbourne.
Had the arrangements been left wit 1 the Commonwealth the New Zealand tour would have occurred after the Australian festivities were finished.
