GIRL GUIDE NOTES.

(By Guider.) At present our girls are keen on getting through their -tenderfoot test, and several have now passed. It is hoped to arrange the next enrolments for Saturday week. But there are still lots of girls in Hawerai who ha.ve not yet been along to the- Scout Hall on a- Saturday afternoon. We wish we coulcfi tell them -what they are missing and what- jolly’ times we are all going to- have together a® the longer days approach, And then there will be the holidays, when we shall all get to know'each other ,so well and will visit and he visited by other Guide companies in different parts of Taranaki. There are endless opportunities for friendship in Guiding, and every girl who loves a- healthy outdoor life and jolly companionship will be welcome- a.s a Guide.

The following ladies have offered to help with the making of uniforms- 1 : Mesdames Fox, Hobbs, Kemp, Harding and Henderson. Should any difficulty be experienced or help- required in the making of. uniforms, the committee will be very glad to as-sist.

• Nurse Dix has kindly consented to lecture to Guiders on Plunket work. This will be very useful in connection with the child nurse test, and it is hoped that Guiders will take -advantage of Nurse Dix’s ofFer. Various- other lectures will he arranged as time goes on. The district .secretary has received an intimation from Miss M. Newcome(Wanganui Commissioner) to the effect that the recent Guiders’ Gamp held in Wanganui was entirely self-supporting. This is very satisfactory. We should not have liked to think that our good Wanganui friend® were out of pocket. Guiders- had a. good time in- the- camp, and were well fed and well looked after.

The New Zealand' Girl Guiders have a- magazine, called The Dominion Girl Guide. It is published in- Auckland, and the price is 3s 3d per annum, post free. This magazine contains a- great deal of interesting matter and is worthy of the support of all Guides. Members of the local association and all others who would like to take the magazine please communicate with the District Secretary, Box 95, Hawora. The Brown Owl has about 30 Brownies ready for enrolment. The different “sixes” have chosen their names, and will be known as Pixies, Sprites, Elves, Kelpies and Fairies. We are going to he very proud of our Brownies, and with all these fairies sentterecl about our town what- a, lot of good deeds they will do. The Brownie motto is “Lend a Hand.”

We are pleased to congratulate Mrs R. Fo-ord. of the Eltham company of Guides, who has now received her capruin’s- warrant from headquarters. Mrs Koonl is a very enthusiastic Guider. Miss G. Quin, who was one of the first of our younger- Guiders. hut who was forced to give up the work temoorarilv, has now taken it up, again. Mn rjoi'ie Monaghan- has , been promoted to patrol lender. Congratulations, Mariorie! Mrs R. R. Henderson has started: aGuiders’ and Rangers’ class. Everyone is enthusiastic, and much benefitwill he derived from mutual study and interchange of ideas. Irene Swan has presented us with a small grama, phone. A new spring was reouired. and the instrument is now in order. So as to make us feel that it is our own it is suggested that Guides contribute a penny a week to pay for the repairs, and the purchase of record®. It will he of great assistance to us for our country dances.
