THEFT OF A COAT.

WELLINGTON, Aiig. 5. •Nola Emma Spiller, a domestic, aged 20, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court- to the theft- in November of a fun coat valued at £2O, also to -attempted suicide alter her arrest yesterday. She was committed to a Borstal institution for three years.
SERIOUS CHARGES ALLEGED.
HOKITIKA, Aug. 5. Henry Smythe, labourer, of Three Mile, pieadei! guilty t-o- -a- charge of attempted suicide on July IS. H© wasconvicted and ordered to come up for -sentence in twelve months’ time if called upon. Accused was further charged that on several occasions he- did carnally know his daughter, aged 14 years. He reserved his defence and was committed for trial at the next Supreme C-curt-sittings.
GRIGG CONVICTED.
AUCKLAND, Aug. 5. In the Suprenr© Court, at- the- trial of Raymond F. W. Griggs charged with having in hi-s possession material for the manufacture of counterfeit- coins, the jury found on the questions put by the judge that the- .statement of the wife was not admissable, but that there was sufficient evidence in proof of guilt. Accused was remanded for sentence.
