CROSSING AN INTERSECTION

DRIVER’S LICENSE SUSPENDED.

Arising from the collision which occurred a t the .intersection, of the Glover and Waihi roads, Hawera, at 5.10 .p.m. on. Monday, July 26, between a Star delivery car and a grocery motor van, the driver of the latter vehicle, Frederic John Nyberg, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court at Hawera yesterday with driving in a negligent manner. The case was heard by Mr J. S. Barton, S.M. Defendant was represented by Mr P. O’Dea, who entered ft plea of not guilty. Outlining the circumstances, Sergeant J. Henry, who conducted the prosecution, intimated that the paper delivery car, going from the direction of High Street, was travelling on the Waihi Road, and the grocery van wfts on the Glover Road proceeding towards the town. At the intersection .the front of the van struck the side of the _ car, pushing it diagonally across the junction, and it was considered the collision was due to the negligence of the driver of the vftn.

John Francis Dombroski, the first witness, said that on July 26 he was driving his car along the Waihi Road front the direction of the racecourse towards the town. He had seen a twoaea.ter Ford car coming down the Waihi Road. It seemed to be travelling s’owly, and the horn had been sounded. As the car entered the Glover Road intersection a. white van travelling at-right angles ran into it, striking the eftr broadside on and carrying it across the roadway to the corner of the intersection.
