A meeting of tlie Paten. Borough Council was held' on Monday. Present: His Worship the, Mayor, Crs Christensen. Thompson, Honeyfield, and Pa msbottom. Apologies for non-attendance were; read from Crsi Hook and Slierwood;
SPECIAL MEETING
Balance-sheets were received 1 from the Audit Office for the years 1924-25 and J 925-26. —Moved by the Mayor, seconded bv Cr Christensen, that they be adopted'.—Carried. Moved by Cr Christensen, seconded by the Mayor, that the balance-sheets be printed.— Carried. ORDINARY MEETING.
The following correspondence was dealt with:. Circular .letter from the Hawera Borough Council, submitting a, protest against the Town Planning Bill.— Mover by the Mayor that the, letter be received," and that support, bo; given to the Hawera, Borough Council in protesting against the Bill in its present form. ~ Seconded by Cr Christensen. Carried. From Paten School Committee re reduction in water rate.—Moved by Cr Christensen, seconded by Cr Rnmsbottom. that the, charges he rebated by one-half. Carried. From the borough solicitor on account of J. H. Cronin, re terms of lease. —Moved by Cr Christenson, seconded by Cr .Ramsbottom, that the borough solicitor bo instructed to draw up a new lease at the upset price of elO per annum. Carried. From J. F. Grange, re offer for dismantled gas plant.—Moved by Cr Honeyfield. seconded by the M-ayor, that the; offer of £2 per ton . for the scrap, iron, be 'accepted. Carried. From the Inspector of Explosives re cinematograph operating box, plans as submitted being satisfactory.—Moved by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Christensen, that the letter be received. Moved bv Cr Christensen, seconded by the Mayor, that alterations, to the operating box bp carried, out by the council under the supervision of the borough engineer and the, building inspector. Carried. Moved- by Cr Christensen. .seconded by the Mayor, that the, council strongly protest against against the Local Bodies Control Bill as now ti rope sod in Parliament. Carried.
From Air H. G. Dickie. AI.P., enclosing a letter from the Public Trust Office authorising a, loan of £2OOO for street improvements. —Moved by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Christensen, that, the letters be received, and votes of thanks be linseed to Messrs Dickie and, Honeyfield for their efforts.
From John Burns and Co. re debentupres for £3OOO loan. —Moved by Cr Christensen, seconded! by the Mayor, that debentures of £IOO each be printed as security for the £3OOO loan. GEXERat; BUSINESS.
Moved by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Honeyfield. that, 'in order to complete. the works, application he, made for a, further 10 per cent advance on the loan of £3OOO. —Carried. Moved' by the Mayor, seconded! by. Cr Honeyfield! that Air Petersen, of the West, Coast Refrigerating _ Co., be thanked for bis valuable services in assisting in the dismantling of the gas engine.—-Carried.

Re the £2900 loan for street imnrovements, the Alavor suggested that the first work be the kerb-ing and water tabling of Bedford l -street. — Moved by ATr Christensen, seconded by Cr Raiusbottoin, that -work be started oil 1 Bedford street at once.—Carried,.
