Messrs M. H. Kendall and J. J. Goodwin will leave flawera this evening on a. visit to Auckland. Amongst the recent sufferers from influenza, is Mr E. P. Beauchamp, the Haiwera stationmaster, who is off duty at presentMr J. G. Nichoi, Stratford manager for the Farmers’ Go-op. Society, has accepted an important position with Messrs E. J. Hy-ams, Ltd., indent agents, of Wellington. Mr Nieliol, who has been on leave recuperating, following upon a serious operation lie underwent. is making a. splendid recovery, and savs that he. feels a new man. He expects to leave for Wellington .in September.

Stanley Lay, who will visit Brisbane, shortly to represent New Zealand in Javelin, throwing in the Australasian athletic championships,- was tihe recipient of a gift last evening from the boys’ and girls’ clubs, of St. Alary’s Church. The rapidly diminishing hand of Taranaki pioneers was .further depleted yesterday by the death of Airs AY alter Bishop, of Fitzroy, in her 90th year. She was the youngest daughter of the late John anil Jane Loveridge, and was born at Nethenby. Dorsetshire. Mrs Bishop reached New Plymouth with her parents by the, ,shii,p, Timand-ra in February, 1842.* The only member of the original Loveridge family now su-iviving is Air Samuel Loveridge, of Fulford street, New Plymouth.

There died at- Wellington on Saturday. July 17. an ex-resident of Hawera, Air George Forsyth, who .will be well known to-the older members of the community. He was a nephew of an early settler in this district, Air James Davidson, by whom he, was employed for two years as manager of a, general store in Hawera. The late Air Forsyth caime to New Zealand in 1875, and resided here till 1 1897, when lie removed to AVellington. While l .in Hawerai he was interested in Caledonian games, and was one of the first members of the society in. this town. For the -last seven year's he had been confined to his bed, hut he maintained his interest in general affairs to the last.
