The Marine Court of Inquiry into the wreck of the Manaia found that the ship went on Slipper Island: owing to a strong set inshore. The master (Captain Norbury) was held to be blameless and was complimented for his handling of the sbi.p after the. mishap, and the cpurt exmessed sympathy with him The court held 1 that, although the third officer could not be blamed for the wreck, he was over-confident in not calling the master earlier when he had not sighted Slipper Island.
