East C-oast: The Waiapu well has been drilled to 660 feet, in sticky blue shale; show of gas at 585 feet; 12-in:ch casing run to 594 feet. DEFICIENCY ON EXHIBITION COURT. WELLINGTON, June 29. The deficiency on the combined Wellington, Nelson, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki court at the Dunedin Exhibition is £1250. The committee appeal to business men to wipe it out. JEWELLER'S SHOP ENTERED. ' DUNEDIN, June 29. The- jewellery shop of F. Himmel wa.s burgled and goods worth about £IOO stolen on Sunday. Entry was made through a. window, which was smashed in by ail iron bar. A WOMAN’S DEATH. AUCKLAND, June 29. Mrs. A. D'. Young, wife of a farmer at Pukekohe, died at the hospital from a severe wound in the throat. An inquest is proceeding.
