HAAVERA (3) v, MANAIA (2). These two teams met at King Edward Parle on Saturday, and the game resulted in a. win for Haw era- by three goals to two. Neither side was at full strength, but a very interesting game was witnessed. Hawera won trie toss, and Beare elected to play with the 1 sun behind. Manaia set up a strong attack, but A. Spice cut in and; passed to Naismith, who carried- the ball down and centred to Galloway, who scored with a shot well out of the goalie’s reach. Hawera stilt pressed, and 1 from a centre by Spice, Galloway tested Budd, who saved well and sent the ball downfield. A. Pollard .shot and hit the bar, the ball going behind. Muggeridge -stopped McKenzie ■ when in a dangerous position, and’ after a spell of midfield play- A. Pollard) scored from about 30 yards out, the hall going just under the bar. Hawera attacked from the kick-off, and Moloney missed bv inches. At the other end H. Pollard -struck the bar, and Rettett cleared. Half-time -saw the- scores even, one all. The second s-oell started with Hawera attacking, but Budd, Betterid'ge and Muggeridge sent them/ hack, the ball going to- H. Pollard, who -passed to his right wing. Bear© cleared the centre, -and l Bell stopped A. P-ollard alien .fib had almost an open goal. Spice, who was playing a great game, collected and sent- to Moloney’, who beat three or four opponents and scored just inside the post-, the' best bit of may in the game. Manaia tried hard to equalise, hut Hawcra’s defence was too good. Adshead tried, a. solo run, and he looked dangerous when- he was stopped by Betteridge, the ball going to Spice, who passed to Naisniith, who had a; shot. Budd! made a good save but could not clear, McKenzie rushing up and scoring, making the score Hawera- 3, Manaia. F. Manaia then livened up, and after a series of attacks- the three brothers Pollard 1 in turn took the hall down for H. Pollard to score Manaia’s second- goal. Shortly afterwards Manaia- had hard luck iu not equalising. At the other end Galloway tested Budd.' and Moloney hit the upright. The following play was uneventful, and the game finished as stated above. Mr Geo. Mitchell refereed.
