Colonel D. Mnnro, officer commanding Queen Alexandra’s Second Mounted Rifles Regiment, arrived' in Hawera last evening and inspected the regimental camp at the Egmont- A. and P. Showgrounds to-day. Mr AY. J. Thompson, of the Railways advertising studios, AA T ellington, has come to Hawera to make arrangements for the very extensive exhibit- to be made by the Department at the AA’inter Shew. He states it will be largely on the lines of the exhibit at the Dunedin Exhibition. 1 , The Prime Minister has announced the following appointments t-o the Prime Minister's Department: Mr. C. A. Beremdsem, L.L.M., to the Imperial Affairs bnanich; Mr. R. M. OanijpbeLL, M.A., L.L.8., to the .secretarial staff; Mr. 0. A. Jeffery to be promoted to be Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister in succession! to Mr. F. D. Thomson. _ -The popularity of Air E. T. Burke with the members of the Otakeho branch of- the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was expressed last night at the social, when the prizes won by him were presented iby Air Daley. The latter said Air Burke had been the mainstay of the branch and had always given a good lead to members in its various activities. The good work done by Air H. R. AA r ood as hon. secretary to the Otakeho Farmers’ Union was suitably acknowledged last night- at- the annual social when, in a happy little speech, the president (Air E. T. Burke) handed him a cheque from the -branch. He said that the arrangements made by the secretary for all union, functions during the year were excellent, while his statement of accounts was- most favourably commented upon by the auditor. Air AA’ood had taken up the work from Air Daley, and both had given excellent'service to the- branch.
