The district carnival in aid of funds for the Catholic church concluded Ja.st night, when ALiss Gladys Timms (Hainan) was crowned queen of the queens by the. Mayors of Eketahuna and Pahiatua, at a very large gathering. The financial result was in excess of £-500. NOXIOUS WEEDS. HASTINGS, June 17. At the meeting of the provincial executive of the Hawke’s* Bay Farmers’ Union this morning, a lengthy discusssion took place on. noxious weeds. A motion was carried that the principle of appointing local advisory noxious weeds boards to work in co-operation with the department was adopted. This will be forwarded to the annual conference. FIRE BOARD FOR WAIPUKURAU.. WAIPUKURAU, June 17. A progressive fire-fighting proposal, represented by the forming of a fire district, to be followed by the establishment of a board, was carried yesterdav by a large majority of the elec, tors of the Waipukurau borough.
