TROTTING.

PROSPECTS FOR AUCKLAND. NOTES BY “LIMIT." The Manger© Handicap lias drawn a fine field of thirty, and of the bunch B. Willetts’, pair, Signorella and The Pointer, read well. But Toll Chimes is credited with a lot of pace and can see out the journey. Van Cap, on 4S behind, has also a chance; but in such a field the limit horses have the advantage, and when reckoned np Signorella and Toll Chimes appeal. The second event on the programme is a straight-out trotters’ race. Sister Beatrice, on 12 behind, has won on this course before, and Direct Action lias a great reputation. The Squire has gone back again to J. Sliaw. When the field pass the judge Sister Beatrice may be in the money. The Campbell Handicap, the chief event of the day, will be a good betting race, as the class has brought some of the best two-mile horses in the Dominion Imprint, on scratch, has a severe task, but good judges say we have not seen the best of this horse yet. Bessie Logan, off the front, has been racing into form, and , Dillon Wilkes ran second to Waitaki Girl at Addington last week. When’ all is sumrned up, Dillon Wilkes may be in front at the finish.

Another' large field lias accepted for the Hobson Handicap, two miles, and there are a number of horses that have been racing prominently of late. Marshal Neil, “which won the chief event at Hastings, seems to be well in, while Buz Buz, with S. August, always runs an honest race. Daphne Wildwood, who won the Hawera Cup this season, has not been harshly treated. Daphne Wildwood and Marshal Neil will be the likely ones. The Stewards’ Handicap, another straight-out trotters’ race, has always been an interesting feature of the pro-, gramme. Happy Rosa has two wins to his credit, and is capable of running out a good two miles. Ngatora is one that is likely to come to light at any time. Peterwah, on 72, is also very fast over two miles. On performances it looks between Happy Rosa and Petervvah, but Rose Bingen has always to be remembered.

The one mile and a quarter event has not drawn a very classy field. Sea Pear], which won at Ashburton, reads well, and if Gratton Thorpe decides to leave the mark the back markers will be kept going. Jean Darling, off the front, is another likely candidate. If the starter gets them away safely, Gratton Thorpe, should be prominent in the later stages. The concluding event of one piile is one of the best races of the day where there are a lot of speedy horses engaged. , Her Ladyship, who is now trained in the South Island, likes the going soft, while Bonny Logan has been running very consistently this season; but if Imprint’s party choose to reserve him for this event he will be the hardest to beat.
