BOWLING.

NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT. LOCAL PLAYERS JUST BEATEN. The one local rink in the pairs championship, McDonald (Manaia) and Masiin (Hawera), were olaying very well, and were within sigfrt of winning the section. As it was they came out with two wins and three losses. Reporting their play, the Times says: “Kirk became the winner of Section C by defeating McDonald by one point in the fifth round. Kirk was always in charge, and McDonald just failed to square the game on the last head, notching four to make his score 18 —19.”

McDonald had bad luck in being beaten by a point in the third round, scoring 19 to" his opponent’s (Hardley, of Auckland) 20, and then after a very comfortable win from Jones (Christchurch) he again went down by only one point to the winner of the section. He was thus only those two points off being the winner in Section E. HAWERA BOWLERS RETURN. Three of the rink who went south •from Kawera, Messrs Cor kill, S. Adamson and Shaw, returned last night from tho Dominion tournament. They report having had an excellent time, having been given a thoroughly cordial welcome and been looked after'exceedingly well. Their accommodation, too, they say. was very good indeed. Regarding the tournament, they are emnhatic in their approval of the organisation. They say the greets were all very good, and much faster than thev were accustomed to play upon, and this fact caused them to take some time to get used to the extra, “speed” of the greens. They renewed many past friendships, and (altogether had a good time, the experience of which should be useful in the future.
