(From Our Own Correspondent.) The new nurses’ home at the Patea Public Hospital is to be formally opened by Dr. r of Hospitals, on Tuesday next, at 2.30 p.m. The committee in charge of the afternoon tea has made arrangements with Air Read, baker of this town, to provide refreshments in the supper room of the Town Hall. An excellent musical programme has been arranged. The Patea branch of the Plunket Society lias decided to hold a garden fete in the Patea Domain on the 29th inst. The proceedings will commence at 10 a. 111.. and hot water will be provided at the small charge of 3d, and morning and afternoon teas at 6d per head. Prizes will be given for the best decorated go-carts, pram, etc. Airs T. Moss has donated 10s 6d towards the expenses of the fete. An effort is being made to hold a swimming carnival here at an early date. A meeting was held the other evening with a view to finding out what support was likely to be offering. A trial swim is to take place on AA rednesdny, February 3, when it is hoped to he able to pick no a number of entries for the carnival. The annual general meeting of the shareholders of the Patea District Aleat Company. Ltd., will he held on Monday next, 25th inst., at 11 a.m., at the company’s office, Patea. The report of the directors states that “no profit has been earned on the capita] employed, hut the company has assisted greatly in maintaining the industry in this district, thereby fulfilling the object for which it was formed.”
