Some months ago news was received in Wellington that the Austrian authorities desired to learn under what legal conditions Austrian medical men were permitted to practise as doctors in the British Empire and what openings, if any, existed for them. In the column ideation received the questions applied to the position in New Zealand and Samoa. The matter was subsequently taken up by the Wellington branch of the British Medical Association, and at a meeting of the council a resolution, viewing with alarm the suggestion that Austrian doctors should be allowed toi practise in New Zealand, and i.t was pointed out that there was no reciprocity contrary 1 to the Medical Practitioners A<t of New Zealand, and it was pointed out that there was no reciprocity as regarding medical .practice between the Dominion and Austria. A reply has now been forwarded to the Austrian authorities that Austrian medical practitioners, holding Austrian medical qualifications, are at present ineligible for registration in New' Zealand. and, therefore, cannot enter this country for the purpose of practising their profession. The position in regard to Samoa is identical.
