NURSERYMEN CONFER.
STATE COMPETITION DISCUSSED. (KY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Jan. 20. The nineteenth annua] conference of New Zealand Nurserymen opened this morning, fifty delegates being present. After a civic welcome, the conference was opened by the Hon. G. J. Anderson, who promised to refer the question of State competition with nurserymen in the sale of trees to the Minister for Agriculture. Mr Anderson paid a tribute to the worth of Sir Francis Be'l and Sir R. Heaton Rhodes in connection with Forestry. He suggested that until deer was eliminated altogether New Zealand forests were in danger of destruction. The president, Mr T. D. Lenme (■Christchurch), (in his address, dontended that the fact that the successful nurseryman was the small man was a strong argument against Government competition. He expressed the opinion that in some lines a decrease in the prices of trees should be made. The new president is Mr Thomas Waugh, of Lower Hutt.
