Various parties of the Left Cartel held meetings after the resignation ot the Cabinet, but were unable to agree upon a policy. Finally a joint conference of Socialists, Radical Socialists, and Republican Socialists adopted a resolution declaring their determination to support only a Cabinet of the Left under At. Herriot or At. B-riand. These three groups total 278 deputies, therefore it is essential that they should obtain the support of at least twenty of the forty Radical Left Group to be assured of a majority in the Chamber, and to form a Government prepared to carry out the Cartel s policy.—Reuter.

Reutei. Ward was an experienced tunnellei, having worked in four other tunnels previously. It is understood that he has a brother at Tokomaru Bay. The fall of papa, which left a huge gap in the roof of the tunnel, consisted of a number of big rocks, one weigh in o' about five tons. The centre pole holding up the supporting timbers was caught in the downfall. Apparently Ward bad started to run, but was caught on the outside of the fall.
