An important development in the shipping strike occurred to-day, when the strike committee approached the Oversea Shipping, Representatives’ Association with a request for a conference. The request was granted. The conference adjourned, after an hour’s discussion. The proceedings were private, jbut- it is understood that a deadlock was reached, though the conference is not abandoned. The Maheno was again held up owing to a shortage of crew. She was removed to an anchorage in Neutral Bay, pending attempts to locate the missing men. She later succeeded in securing a full crew and sailed at 10 p.m, for Auckland.
