FREEZING STOCK.

SEASON OPENS SHORTLY. In discussing the prospects for the coming season with a- leading grazier who had ire turned to Hamilton from a trip through the North Island, a Times reporter was informed that the prospects of high prices for iamb s and fat sheep did not appear to be as good as they were last season. In Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu the opening price had been lOd per lb for prime November lamb, up to- 3Glb, but the figure was now reduced to 9id. Exporters apparently, were not keen oil purchasing heavyweight, And lambs over 421 b would be fully lid per lb less than the -lightweights, the demand from England being principally for light and second-class lamb.

Fat sheep prices, according to the grazier, were likely to be 2d per lb lower than last year, and probably a lower figure still would be offering for heavyweights in this division. Owing to the shortage of steer cattle there wa s not much prospect of any ox beef being frozen, as the local demand would probably be able to consume Tfcost of the supply from this quarter. The Auckland works will probably commence killing within the next week or ten days, but owing to the late-r and bad season there does not appear to be a great deal of stock ready for the works.
