Butt, a young girl, fell over a cliff at Sumner yesterday, but was saved by a ledge of rock, where she lay for two hours, unable to move. Then a passerby saw her and with police assistance raised her to the top by means of a rope. She was not injured, but is prostrated by shock.

PAYMENTS. BY OLD' AGE PENSIONERS. WELLINGTON, July 24. The Hospital Board yesterday discussed the payment, of fees by old ago pensioners. Mr. E. Vine stated that when old age pensioners), received treatment, the pensions were confiscated by local authorities. FIRE IN TECHNICAL SCHOOL

TIMARU, July 24. Shortly after 4 o’clock this morning the Fire Brigade was called to the Technical School, where it was found that the woodwork department, owned hy the Education Board and containing’much valuable machinery and timber, was in flames. The fire had a strong hold, and as it was impossible to save the building the brigade concentrated its efforts on preventing the flames from spreading to the adjoining premises. In this work the brigade was successful. The building where the fire started was completely destroyed. The loss will, he severe, and will interrupt the activities of the school in that department.
