LIFELINE SURF RESCUE.

CREW DRAGGED TO SAFETY IN A GALE. LONDON, June 6. A gale off the Lizard drove the French steamer Depute Maurice Bernard, 2038 tons, ashore at Kennack. When the tide* receded she remained high and dry on the rocks. The Lizard lifeboat and two tugs were beaten back by the heavy seas. Hie crew remained on board and an attempt to refloat- the steamer will be made at high water. A tug, the J off re. owners Messrs Lawson and Batov, South Shields, went ashore during the night .near Start Point. Captain Hodge and the crew of ]f were dragged to safety through the surf by the rocket apparatus.
