DUTY ON LEMONS. FROM OUR PARLIAMENTARY REPORTER. WELLINGTON, July 22. An assurance was asked iby Mr. Sullivan (Avon) of the Minister for Customs that there will be no increase in duty on foreign lemons imported into New Zealand of Id per pound, as proposed by certain merchants at Auckland. Mr. Stewart, Minister for Customs, replied that the duty of Id per pound on lemons is imposed by the tariff and cannot be altered without amendment of the law. It is not at present proposed by the Government to take any action to increase the duty on' lemons. CATTLE DEHORNING. The member for the Bay of Plenty asked the Minister for Agriculture whether his department can obtain any information from abattoir and freezing works in the Dominion as to what amount of beef is damaged by cattle horning each other in transit to these works. v Mr. Nosworthy (Minister for Agriculture) replied ‘that the Government will be glad to secure the latest information available regarding this.
